NINTH ANNUAL SEASON
DANCE CONCERTS:
PRAYERS, PAINTINGS, DREAMS AND DANCES
Denver-based modern dance company presents ninth annual season concerts
Denver, Colorado SPEAKING OF DANCE is pleased to present "Prayers,
Paintings, Dreams and Dances" on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April
26, 27 and 28, 2002. SOD is celebrating our ninth season with the premiere
of two pieces. The concerts will be held at the Lakewood Cultural Center,
470 South Allison Parkway. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday,
April 26 and 27, and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2002. Tickets are
$15 for box seats, $12 for adults and $8 for Colorado Dance Alliance members,

SPEAKING OF DANCE will premiere a solo about "dreams deferred"
for Deborah Reshotko, with an original music score by Jon Stubbs. Also
premiering is a "prayerful" dance set to music by the late Israeli
singer Ofra Haza. Stitches Tie, Ties Bind, a dance about quilts commissioned
by the Colorado Historical Society for Quiltspeak, their exhibit at the
Colorado History Museum, features six dancers and an original music score
by Michael Stanwood, who will perform his music for show. SPEAKING OF
DANCE is also remounting American Painting, an acclaimed dance first created
in 1999 by Reshotko, exploring the works of seven American artists: Jackson
Pollock, Louise Nevelson, Edward Hopper, Andrew Wyeth, Arshile Gorky,
Piet Mondrian, Alexander Calder. This dance features the entire SOD company
plus two guest artists and has an original music score by Mark McCoin.
SPEAKING OF DANCE is thrilled to be working with its tried and true team
of design collaborators and performers. Sheree Goecke is lighting the
performance. Costumes are by Wendy Joy Felker. All choreography is by
Deborah Reshotko. There will be a talk-back session after the performances
with Deborah Reshotko and composer Michael Stanwood, as well as the dancers
and designers. Performing are Georgia Arribau, Mande Broderick, Susan
Coates, Daniele Donatelli, Tamara Freund, Meg Hill, Kelley Lehman, Annabella
Maurera, Charlotte McNally, Gino Proctor, Deborah Reshotko and Becky Sievers.
