SPEAKING OF DANCE's twin focuses of artistic excellence and community outreach through dance allow SOD to fill unique niches in Denver's cultural life. Performances and Commissions SOD's choreography often focuses on concrete subjects. SOD is particularly interested in social issues and the artist's ability to use art to educate and inform audiences. These interests, paired with artistic excellence, have resulted in creative collaborations with such institutions as the Colorado Symphony, the Colorado Performing Arts Festival, the Mizel Museum of Judaica, the Denver Art Museum, and the Colorado Historical Society. SOD's choreography and performances are in high demand; over 40 performances are booked annually. |

Workshops SOD's creative dance workshops are available for both schools and community organizations. SOD's school workshops for K-12 children examine curricular themes to enhance literacy and increase academic achievement. SOD also offers intergenerational workshops for community organizations. All workshops focus on storytelling through the art of dance.

Community Outreach SOD is unique in stressing that art is for everyone and in providing many opportunities for people to participate in the arts as audience members and as dancers. SOD uses dance to break down barriers and build trust among diverse groups of people through community projects. SOD's programs are marked by responsiveness to the needs of individuals within a community and to the community as a whole. SOD is committed to benefiting the community through audience development and reaching people who otherwise have little access to dance. An important feature of all SOD performances is that they are followed by talk-backs to give audience members the opportunity to interact with the choreographer, performers and designers and to learn more about the art of dance. |
