SEVENTH ANNUAL SEASON DANCE CONCERTS: "The Sneetches" and Other Dances

Denver-based modern dance company presents seventh annual season concerts

Denver, Colorado - SPEAKING OF DANCE is pleased to present "The Sneetches" and other dances on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 7, 8 and 9, 2000. SOD is celebrating our seventh season with the premiere of two new pieces, as well as two works that are favorites with SOD audiences. The concerts will be held at the Cleo Parker Robinson Theatre, 119 Park Avenue West, in Denver. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, April 7 and 8, and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 9, 2000. Tickets are $10 general admission and $8 for students, seniors and Colorado Dance Alliance members. For more information and reservations, please call 303-722-0902.

The program features four dances, including the premiere of "The Sneetches," a humorous look at tolerance. The dance features SOD company members plus eight guest artists. With wild costumes by Wendy Joy Felker and a whimsical, cartoon-like score by Mark McCoin, the dance is very entertaining as it tells a significant story. Also new is "Three Jungle Studies," a duet incorporating the moves and moods of the jungle, with an original score by Michael Stanwood. Two favorites with SOD audiences will also be presented. "And There Was Darkness, And There Was Light..." is a dance exploring domestic violence and the healing from it, to an original score by Jesse Manno. The evocative set for this work is designed by Ray Paschal. "Two/One" is a lively trio danced to the Bach double violin concerto.

SPEAKING OF DANCE is thrilled to be working with its tried and true team of design collaborators and performers. Sheree Goeke is lighting the performance, and Wendy Joy Felker is costume designer. All choreography is by Deborah Reshotko. There will be a talk-back session after the performances with Deborah Reshotko and composer Mark McCoin, as well as the dancers and designers. This talk-back is generously sponsored by Meet the Composer, Inc. Performing are SOD company dancers Mark Haase, Meg Hill, Kelley Lehman, and William Starn; guest dancers are Mary Ann Amari, Anne Bartlett, Gwylym Cano, Christina Castro, Susan Coates, Christine OíDea, Christian Sestric and Fabricio Velez.

Support for these concerts is provided in part by the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District Denver Tier III, the Mayorís Office of Art, Culture and Film, the Gay and Lesbian Fund for Colorado, the Denver Foundation, KTVD-UPN 20, the Denver Ballet Guild, U.S. Bank, and Meet the Composer, Inc.
